President Bola Tinubu on Tuesday received the President-elect of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, at the State House, Abuja, ahead of her inauguration as the 33rd President of the Association.
Badejo-Okusanya, who was recently elected to lead Nigeria’s foremost professional body for lawyers, was accompanied on the courtesy visit by the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Caleb University, Prof. Foluke Dada-Lawanson; the President of the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Nigeria, Ezinwa Okoroafor; the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Lead of the NBA Women Forum, Hadiza Afegbua; and the Publicity Lead of the BBold Campaign Team, Ramlat Ridhwan.
The visit comes barely days after Badejo-Okusanya emerged victorious in the 2026 NBA national officers election, becoming the first woman to be elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association.
Her election marks a significant milestone in the Association’s history. Although the NBA has previously had a female president, Mrs. Priscilla Kuye, who served between 1991 and 1992, Kuye assumed office under the Association’s rotational arrangement and was not elected through a competitive national election. Badejo-Okusanya is therefore the first woman to secure the presidency through a nationwide electoral contest.
She is expected to succeed the incumbent NBA President, Afam Osigwe, SAN, at the Association’s Annual General Conference scheduled to hold in Enugu next month, where she will be formally sworn in for a two-year tenure.
The courtesy visit to the Presidential Villa comes as the President-elect continues engagements with key stakeholders ahead of the commencement of her administration, which is expected to shape the direction of the Nigerian Bar Association over the next two years.
