Yoruba Nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, has alleged that certain politicians are behind the recent abduction of schoolchildren in Oyo State and has threatened to publicly reveal their identities if the attacks continue.
Speaking during a meeting with newly elected executives of the National Association of Nigerian Students led by Akinteye Babatunde at his residence in the Soka area of Ibadan, Igboho claimed he possesses information about individuals allegedly sponsoring criminal activities in the state.
In a video that has since circulated online, the activist stated that he had volunteered to assist in rescuing the abducted pupils but was allegedly prevented from doing so by the Oyo State Government.
According to him, he never demanded any payment from the administration of Seyi Makinde to participate in rescue efforts.
“I know the politicians behind these criminals. They are the ones supplying them with money and ammunition. If they refuse to stop, I will mention their names publicly,” he said.
Igboho further alleged that some political actors were deliberately creating insecurity to undermine the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, drawing parallels with the security challenges experienced during the administration of Goodluck Jonathan.
He claimed that after offering to deploy his proposed security outfit, “Iru Ekun Security Network,” to pursue the kidnappers, he was informed that any such intervention could endanger the lives of the abducted victims.
The activist also alleged that despite receiving federal approval for the establishment of the security network, the state government opposed its operations and warned against any independent rescue mission.
Igboho maintained that local security initiatives should be allowed to assist in flushing out criminal elements from forests across the South-West, insisting that kidnappers could be dislodged if given the necessary support.
His comments come amid heightened concerns over the abduction of dozens of pupils and teachers during attacks on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State on May 15, 2026. The affected institutions included Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota; Community Grammar School, Esiele; and L.A. Primary School.
The incident generated widespread outrage, particularly after one of the abducted teachers, Michael Oyedokun, was reportedly killed by the kidnappers.
Security agencies have since intensified operations in the area, with efforts ongoing to rescue the remaining victims and apprehend those responsible for the attacks.
