The Electoral Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association (ECNBA) has published the official list of lawyers who participated in the 2026 NBA National Elections, in compliance with the provisions of the NBA Constitution requiring the disclosure of voters after the close of polls.
In a notice dated 19 July 2026, the Committee stated that the publication was made pursuant to Part V of the NBA Constitution, which mandates the ECNBA to publish the list of voters from each branch and transmit it to all candidates within twelve hours after the conclusion of voting.
According to the Committee, the document contains the names of members who successfully cast their votes in the election, arranged according to their respective NBA branches. The ECNBA explained that certain personal information had been redacted to comply with applicable data privacy laws and protect voter confidentiality.
The Committee noted that the publication forms part of its constitutional obligations and is intended to promote transparency in the electoral process.
The published document also contains the total number of voters from each NBA branch, as well as the overall number of members who participated in the nationwide election.
Reaffirming its commitment to accountability, the ECNBA stated that the publication was made in “strict fulfilment” of its constitutional responsibilities and in accordance with the provisions governing the conduct of NBA elections.
The notice was signed by the Chairman of the ECNBA, Aham Ejelam, SAN, and the Committee’s Secretary, Ibrahim Aliyu Nassarawa, Esq.
The publication comes amid widespread scrutiny of the 2026 NBA National Elections, which were marred by allegations of cyberattacks, technical failures, voter disenfranchisement, and other electoral irregularities. While the release of the voters’ register fulfils one of the Committee’s constitutional obligations, concerns over the credibility of the election continue to dominate discussions within the legal profession, with several candidates and stakeholders calling for independent reviews of the electoral process.
The NBA experienced crisis during the 2026 election, because, it was reasonably suspected that a rigging pattern was in place, and perfected to give predetermined result.
This is not different from what has been happening in elections in Nigeria at all levels, since 1998.
We need positive REFORMS in Nigeria, starting with the NBA.
