ADC Picks Amaechi as Atiku’s Running Mate for 2027 Presidential Election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has announced the selection of Rotimi Amaechi as the running mate to its 2027 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

The party disclosed the decision in a statement issued in Abuja by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, following consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, and stakeholders across the country.

According to the ADC, Amaechi’s emergence was influenced by his performance in the party’s presidential primary, where he finished second, as well as his extensive experience in public service. The party noted that his background in both legislative and executive roles would strengthen its leadership team ahead of the 2027 general election.

The ADC described the proposed Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic alliance aimed at providing Nigerians with an alternative platform focused on economic recovery, security, national unity, and good governance.

The party highlighted Amaechi’s political career, which includes serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation. It also noted that his influence across Southern Nigeria could help broaden the party’s appeal and strengthen its electoral prospects.

According to the statement, the combination of Atiku’s national political experience and Amaechi’s administrative record presents a ticket capable of addressing Nigeria’s economic and governance challenges.

The ADC further called on its members, coalition partners, youth groups, women organisations, and supporters to rally behind the ticket as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.

The party said the proposed partnership reflects its commitment to building a broad-based coalition capable of restoring public confidence in government and delivering inclusive development across the country.
