The attention of the Incorporated Trustees of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners(ALDRAP) has been drawn to an unverified information about the Blue Silks.
For purposes of clarification we state as follows:
- The Federal High Court Abuja delivered a landmark judgment on 27th January 2026 wherein it was stated that the NBA and by extension the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) can only regulate matters that are listed inside the Legal Practitioners Act, 1962;
- The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) is contained inside the Legal Practitioners Act, 1962 therefore the LPPC and the NBA can regulate the said SAN rank;
- The Blue Silks rank of Senior Counsel of Nigeria-SCN does not appear inside the Legal Practitioners Act, 1962, therefore neither the LPPC nor the NBA can regulate the Blue Silks rank of Senior Counsel of Nigeria-SCN;
- The Federal High Court Abuja in Suit Number FHC/ABJ/CS/2547/2025 filed against the Incorporated Trustees of the NBA is yet to deliver judgment about the NBA’s attempt to interfere with the Blue Silks rank;
- The Secretary of the LPPC is not a judge of the Federal High Court therefore he has no jurisdiction to pass judgment on the Blue Silks rank;
- Blue Silks rank is for non-litigation Nigerian lawyers who can show evidence of 35 verifiable non-litigation publications or transactions. It is a mark of legal excellence for non-litigation Nigerian lawyers.
- The inherent powers conferred upon the incorporated trustees of the Association of Legislative Drafting and Advocacy Practitioners-ALDRAP by the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020 is the basis of the Blue Silks rank.The same powers that gives other incorporated trustees the power to confer ranks such as Chartered Mediators and Conciliators by the Institute of Chartered Mediators and Conciliators (ICMC) upon its members is the same powers that gives legitimacy to ALDRAP to confer the Blue Silks rank upon its members.
